Shopping Iguatemi Sao Paulo – expansion

Shopping Iguatemi Sao Paulo – expansion

  • Originally inaugurated in 1966, Iguatemi São Paulo is the country’s oldest shopping mall still in operation. In 2001, I led the design of its major expansion, which added an entirely new floor housing six state-of-the-art movie theaters with capacity for approximately 1,000 people. This addition required a comprehensive redevelopment of the building’s infrastructure: Parking Expansion & Compliance: Designed new parking levels and upgraded existing facilities to meet contemporary code requirements. Egress & Circulation Strategy: Developed a new egress study that enhanced vertical circulation, integrating existing elevators and emergency staircases into a cohesive system. Complex Ramp Continuation: Engineered the seamless extension of the mall’s signature round vehicular ramp, a critical design and structural challenge. The project expanded the mall’s total built area from 1 million sq. ft. to 1.5 million sq. ft., ensuring its continued relevance as a landmark retail and entertainment destination in São Paulo.
